The final day started out with Eric Meier having a stellar ride in the men's 17-18 ten-kilometer scratch race. After a breakaway of three riders took control of the race in the final lap, Meier picked up his first stars-and-stripes jersey with a win over silver medalist Lanell Rockmore and bronze medalist Iggy Silva. Epes Harris and Dan Heeley rounded out the podium in fourth and fifth....Feed Source: www.usacycling.org Reed advances to quarterfinals of women's match sprint - With no Americans competing in the lone medal event in track cycling on Saturday at the Olympic Games, all eyes were on Jennie Reed and Michael Blatchford as they contested the qualifying heats and preliminary rounds of the match sprint. At the end of the evening, Reed remained in contention for a medal, but Blatchford was eliminated, drawing a close to his Olympic experience. Reed will next square off against Lithuania's Simona Krupeckaite in Monday's quarterfinals. Also on Monday, Sarah Hammer will compete for a medal in the women's points race.... Eight titles awarded on penultimate day of Junior Track Nationals - Eight more national titles were awarded on Saturday after an action-packed penultimate day at the USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships. After qualifying in first with a time of 11.432 over 200 meters, Lanell Rockmore breezed through his semi-final rounds and faced Epes Harris in the finals. Rockmore one the first two rounds to take the gold medal. In the race for bronze, Daniel Walker beat out Tynan Farley. Rounding out the podium in fifth was Trent Boyd.... Five more titles awarded on day 2 of Junior Track Nationals - National championship racing continued on Friday at the ADT Event Center Velodrome in suburban L.A. as stars-and-stripes jerseys were awarded for junior racing in five events. The first national title of the day was awarded to Lanell Rockmore who posted a time of 1:09.171 in the menandrsquo;s 17-18 1-kilometer time trial to claim the top step of the podium. Epes Harris completed the four laps in 1:09.512 to score the silver medal while Alan Ting finished in 1:09.675 for the bronze.Dan Heeley and Daniel Walker rounded out the podium in fourth and fifth.... Junior Track Nationals award 4 stars-and-stripes jerseys Thursday - The USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships kicked off on Thursday with four national championship titles awarded in men's and women's 17-18 events during the morning and evening sessions. Junior World Championships bronze medalist Colleen Hayduk scored two national titles on opening day - one in the women's 17-18 500-meter time trial and the other in the scratch race. In men's 17-18 competition, Kit Karzen saw a thrilling victory in the men's points race while Epes Harris captured a national title in the keirin.... Phinney, Hammer advance in Beijing, team sprint squad 8th - As track cycling began at the Olympic Games on Friday, the United States took its first step towards the medal rounds of the men's and women's individual pursuit when both Taylor Phinney and Sarah Hammer advanced to the first round from their respective qualifying heats. Phinney qualified seventh and Hammer fifth. Next they'll need to win their ensuing first round head-to-head matchups in order to advance to the medal rounds. Also on Friday, the team sprint trio of Michael Blatchford, Adam Duvendeck and Giddeon Massie rode to an eighth-place finish.... USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships kick off Thursday - As the worldandrsquo;s best track cyclists take to the Laoshan Velodrome in Beijing this week, the next generation of American track cyclists will converge in Southern California for the 2008 USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships. The event, which begins on Thursday and runs through Sunday, will see approximately 130 young riders vie for seventeen national titles at the ADT Event Center Velodrome in Carson.... Ouch Sports Medical supports 2008 Junior Track Nationals - USA Cycling and the Home Depot Center have announced that Dr. Brent Kay and the OUCH Sports Medical Center of Temecula, Calif. will be the title sponsor of the 2008 USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships, set for Aug. 14-17 in Carson, Calif. A valuable supporter of Olympic cyclist Sarah Hammer and several track cycling initiatives, Dr. Kay and OUCH Sports Medical Center will welcome some of the nation's best track cyclists age 18 and under to the ADT Event Center velodrome.... U.S. National Team wraps up track events at Junior World's - After opening the 2008 UCI Junior Road andamp; Track World Championships with a two-medal performance last Saturday, the U.S. National Team completed the track events on Wednesday with no additional trips to the podium following the remaining six events in which it competed. With the road events on the horizon this weekend, the U.S. medal count sits at two with the potential for more on the way. Defending time trial world champion, Taylor Phinney, will look to repeat his feat on Friday in the race against the clock.... Phinney claims junior world pursuit title; Hayduk rides to bronze - Just a month before he represents the United States in the 2008 Olympic Games, 18-year-old Taylor Phinney earned a junior world championship in the 3,000-meter individual pursuit on Saturday as part of his final preparation for the Games. Meanwhile, American Colleen Hayduk joined Phinney on the medal stand with a bronze-medal performance in the scratch race - just hours after finishing 11th in the 500-meter time trial at the 2008 UCI Junior Road and Track World Championships in South Africa....
