HDTV recordings: 1920x1088 vs. 1920x1080 lines.. [UN-RESOLVED] - Actually, to settle this mod16 vs. whatever thing, one could review the source code to dgindex and see where it utilizes mod16 algorithm, but good luck in that, especially if it uses pre calculated table or equations, else it worse case, the routine could be in libraries that dgindex calls. But, for those who are c++ savy, it might be worth a ...

What ever happened to jog/shuttle dials? - I don't know if its that necessary. These days players have so many speed levels that you can really get one that usually fits your needs. WIndows media center has like four speeds I believe. The slowest seems to be good for "short" viewing jumps and the highest speeds generally get you to the end pretty fast. I've never had a player, v ...

Questions about reception with new converter box - @usually_quiet - I'm curious as to why you say you can't use an outdoor antenna. It's my understanding that the same legislation that brought about this conversion to digital, also made it so neighborhood associations and the like cannot restrict anyone from having an outside antenna....

Does anybody know where you can get or buy a copy of DVD MovieAlbumSE - Although it is still being supported by Panasonic, I think it has been discontinued and superceded by other software. All the dowloads I saw for it are either updaters or warez. If you could tell us what you need it for, perhaps someone could recommend an alternative....

SVCD with jpgs and wav - Just check that you've selected 44.1kHz sampling rate (instead of DVD's 48kHz), and a constant bitrate (CBR) of say, 224kb/s (again, the official spec allows for some latitude here, but 224 is very safe). Although SVCD allows for variable bitrate, CBR provokes fewer incompatibility problems....

Video is Jerky after NTSC DVD to PAL VCD Conversion. - Not that I am going to, but if you throw enough money at it (i.e. buy some expensive software), is it not even possible to do it satisfactorily? Yes, but not the sort of money you or I have available to us, and a lot of it is actually hardware, not software. And frankly, with the source that many people use, this type of equipment would be ina ...

PAL to NTSC, NTSC to PAL framerate conversion? - Assuming the output is an mpeg-2 video stream for DVD authoring; Solution 1 : encode at 720 x 576 @ 23.976 fps. Use DGPulldown to apply a custom pulldown for 23.976 -> 25 fps. Author and test play. Most players should be happy with this, some may not. Solution 2 : speed up the framerate to 25 fps, then time and ptch adjust the audio to m ...

How to Capture DV on Lossless? - There are different ways to organize a project. You seem to want the off-line/on-line model where tapes are loaded and edited with a temporary off-line editor with an EDL as a the result. The EDL and tapes are then taken to an on-line bay where tapes are recaptured to the bin (only the tapes and clips used in the edit) and then imported to the time ...

am trying to encode to xvid from dvd audio sync issue - You need AviSynth and the DGMPGDec package. Use DgIndex to create an index file (.d2v) and demux the audio. Use the audio skew function to set the delay (if any)....

[Release] Philips 5990 European modded firmware by vb6 - So it looks we won't be getting a modded north american firmware folks. I asked vb6 numerous times and he said he only mods european firmwares to ask someone else. The others I asked never responded. Need help connecting Hauppauge 150 PVR from TV/VCR set up - Run composite video (RCA connector, usually yellow) from the VCR output to the PVR-150: I don't remember if the PVR-150 has a RCA or stereo pin-plug for audio. Simple workflow for capturing and editing HDV from my Canon HV20 - I have the HV20 and about 5-6 tapes (MiniDV) of unedited footage. I would like to dump the HDV onto a hard disk, edit it in Premier CS3, and then put it back on MiniDV without any loss of quality. I do not have BR or a computer that plugs into my TV/projector, so for now I see this as the best way to edit and view video without loss of quality. ...

Would Philips HTS3151 be same as HTS3154? - Fair enough. Plenty of Philips models that do support region change. However, my theory is that rather than have a second firmware build for units shipped to the US, I think Philips would likely save money and just not inform the US market how to do it. I hoped someone had one already, but I think I might take a trip down to the nearest <st ...

I cannot decide which camcorder to buy..Need some advice please - It depends on how you want to use your camera. If you plan on doing much editing, Mini DV is a good choice. It is the most editor friendly format to use. HDD cameras usually save the video as MPEG-2. The problem is that MPEG-2 is not editor friendly and you will lose video quality if you re encode. You need to write down for yourself the ke ...

AviSynth: script command, order of execution, and 'coding efficiency' - It would appear that it's your use of Yadif that is creating the error. Bingo! I removed Yadif() and the file opened fine. The Good, The Bad, And The Chaotic Neutral - Many role-playing games include a system meant to model the characters' moral compasses or beliefs (or lack thereof). But is such a mechanic really necessary in a roleplaying game? If so, what's the best way to implement it? I'll share my opinions on what works and what doesn't in my own gaming experiences; you can (and should!) do the same in the comments. read more...

Mixing & Matching Dungeons & Dragons - Aaaaand we're back. This time, I'm joined by my now 12 year old daughter in our discussion of mixing versions of D&D to get a more interesting game. Yes I know, we just committed heresy. Here we are, on the eve on a brand, spanking new edition of D&D (4th, for those of you keeping track) and we're talking about mixing 1st, 2nd & 3rd all into one big game. I've had people ask me how I do that and as "Newbie" (as my daughter has de...

A Tale of Two Characters - A description of two characters from one of my past campaigns illustrates the topic of what it really means to depict and focus on both genders fairly and equally in your role-playing games. Confessions of a D&D Newbie - Recently, I've found myself in the unusual situation of being an experienced gamer with little experience in the game my primary group is playing - and that game happens to be D&D. Many gamers take D&D experience for granted in their new players, which can cause groups to run into trouble when that isn't the case for some players. These are a few of my experiences as a D&D newbie; knowing about them may help you when dealing with new...

What Roles Do We Die For? - Large molded and painted pieces dominate Lego sets of today. They look cool, but can rarely be used for anything other than their original design purpose. The same might be said of the design components of RPGs such as Dungeons & Dragons, which has evolved quite far from its roots. The following article is a critical examination of the loss of narrative interactions in tabletop role-playing, as exemplified by D&D. read more...
