What you want to look for is a reasonably priced platinum seller, with a good reputation.

How do you know if someone has a good reputation? Ask in-game players about sellers that you've seen around and see what they say.

Also, to limit yourself a little bit, only buy a small amount of platinum first i.e. the lowest amount available and see how the experience goes for you.
